Miljenko Bengez was born in Zagreb in 1954. In the 1980s he began to devote himself to painting. From 1984 to 1989 he collaborated in the atelier of Professor Vilim Svecnjak. In 1987 he had his first solo exhibition in Ljubljana, in the Circle of Cultural Workers and Scientists. Since 1990 he has been staying in Florence, at the “Campo del Restauro - Lorenzo De Medici” and with Professor Leonardo Passeri he has studied the restoration of oil paintings.
After completing his education he left for New York and began his collaboration with the gallery “SE Feineman Fine Arts”. He remained in New York until 1995 and exhibited alternately in the United States, Italy and Croatia. Since 1997 he has collaborated with the Milanese gallery “L'Incisione” which in 2001 published, after numerous editions of his graphic sheets, the monograph entitled “Bengez”.
Since 2001, the Udine gallery “Free Art” has organized Miljenko Bengez’s solo exhibitions throughout Italy, making him known in the Italian cultural scene. To date, Miljenko Bengez has exhibited in over fifty solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in Croatia, Europe and the United States. Since 1994, he has been a member of the Association of Croatian Artists.
